How to Review a Florida Wind Mitigation Report Before Quoting

A wind mitigation inspection documents construction features that may qualify for insurance credits. The form should be complete, readable and supported by photographs before it is used for quoting.

The short answer

Do not treat every checked box as a guaranteed discount. Credits depend on the insurer, policy and documentation accepted by underwriting.

The major features

The report typically addresses building code, roof covering, roof-deck attachment, roof-to-wall connection, roof geometry, secondary water resistance and opening protection.

Where reports commonly break down

Missing photographs, expired or incomplete signatures, inconsistent roof dates and unsupported opening-protection selections can trigger questions. A report may also show that only some openings are protected.

Why opening protection deserves attention

The weakest unprotected opening can affect how the home is classified. Shutters stored in a garage are not enough by themselves; the report must document the approved protection and the openings it covers.

John Galt field note

Review the report beside the four-point inspection and roof permit. Conflicting dates or materials should be corrected before the application reaches underwriting.
